My Role: UX / UI Design Lead
Team: Michael Sawina, Barbie Research Team
Project Duration: 7 months
Programs Used: Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop
Problem
The Barbie Groom N’ Style horse and doll product has features which are difficult to fully communicate on the package. Some consumers may not fully understand all of the great play patterns offered in this product.
Solution
A mobile online experience which can be unlocked by scanning a QR code on the Groom N’ Style horse package. This experience offers product feature videos, instructions on how to use the product, an online store and an augmented reality experience.
Research Survey
We asked the research team to launch a survey to discover if consumers wanted to see QR codes on Barbie packages. We also asked what type of content they wanted to view on their phones once a QR code was scanned.
Survey Findings
After deploying a survey we learned that consumers were excited to scan a QR code on Barbie packaging to unlock additional product information. Below are the features consumers wanted to see.
Personas
2 personas were created to define the customers that would be using this experience. They were kids ages 3-8 and parents.
Competitive Analysis
A competitive analysis matrix was created to compare key features within the Mega Blocks, WWE, and Matchbox QR code mobile experiences. This was created to ensure the Barbie mobile experience has all of the features other competitors have to stay competitive.
Wireframes
These are the wireframes that were developed in the early stages of the design process.
